Habit Formation: Day 30

Image
Today was the last day of my 30-day challenge and now, waking up early has become one of my most important habits. Yeah, it has sunk down into a habit—even if I'd not want to wake up, my mind will wake me up on time. The last thirty days were fueled by positive changes within me and I discovered a newer, more disciplined self who maybe was always present but I'd never given an opportunity to thrive.  I am also enjoying a higher level of motivation, energy and have seemed to discover a source of an abundant and unstoppable force within myself which is constantly driving me forward. As I moved further with my challenge, waking up gradually became easier until it finally just automized. I had days wherein I woke up even before my alarm did and felt so fresh as if I hadn't been asleep in the first place—no brain fog, so to say. Certain days, I would be out of my bed, into the bathroom and I'd be walking out with the toothbrush in my hand, without even realising it. Th...

Habit Formation: Day 10

Image
It's the tenth day of the Habit Formation series and a lot has happened so far. Every morning, as soon as my alarm goes off, I automatically boot up and my mind loads the next action to be executed, then the next and the next and almost effortlessly, I complete all my morning routines. In the beginning, I was more in the testing phase—trying various routines to see what worked best but now I feel I have settled down on a good one. I have been getting up at 6:30 am every day, without fail and not a minute later. I've also been working out at 7:30 am so, by the time I'll complete my 30 days waking challenge, I'll have also completed 30 days workout challenge, essentially ingraining it as a daily habit. Even more, on the fifth day, I thought of adding meditation to my daily routine. Meditation has a plethora of benefits and I've always wanted to add it to my daily routine, something I've always failed at. So, on the fifth night, I sat down and wondered, when ...

Habit Formation: Day 5

Image
Today is the fifth day that I am waking up early and so far, it has been amazing! The second day, I felt a little drowsy initially, but it disappeared after I worked out and had a shower. The day ahead flowed smoothly and quite productively. I did feel a little sleepy in the afternoon too, but I'd say that it was a completely different sleepiness than the one I was accustomed to. I was energetic, active and able to continue a task while feeling sleepy. If I'd have tried to sleep, it would have taken me less than ten minutes to lose myself but the sleepiness wasn't so overpowering and I could just keep continuing whatever I was without feeling like collapsing any moment on the ground due to excessive sleepiness. This sleepiness, I have figured out is due to the previous habit of taking afternoon naps. Now, that I am restructuring my sleeping cycle, things will stabilize and so will my energy levels. As is my sleeping schedule, I am getting only six and a half hours of sl...

Habit Formation: Day 1

I really made it today! It all began at six-thirty when my usual alarm went off. Instead of turning it back off and pulling my blanket up to my face, today, I first jumped out of my bed and then turned off the alarm. I know, those moments were critical. The bed was still attracting me strongly, though not as strong as it usually would and my blanket and pillow were throwing out an attention tantrum. I quickly hurried myself out and to the bathroom—I had to answer nature's call. Everything went on as planned. I had my milk, I even worked out after a lot of days—chest day, baby! I had a good breakfast consisting of fruits and toast and now I'm feeling quite motivated to continue my day. It is 10:16 am as I'm typing this today and usually, around this time I would be struggling to get out of my bed—just not today or for the next twenty-nine days. I have gone through all my morning chores and I am completely ready to begin with other things. The last night as I was wrapping...

Getting the Mornings Right

Image
Every morning just as my alarm rings at half past six, the world starts to distort into something surreal. The laws of physics seemingly bend and twist, and my already fuzzy mind fails to make sense of anything around me—my bed suddenly turns into a strong 'human' magnet and I feel stuck to it, unable to move. My pillow whispers into my ear, "You need some more sleep, look just how tired you are," while my blanket gives me a hug. Oh! Those hugs are the warmest, I swear. All my plans from the previous night to wake up early and my continuously-beeping-but-helpless alarm seem to not matter at all. The alarm? The poor guy gets turned off soon after some of my mental fog clears, while my bed, the pillow and the blanket cheer and tell me how right I was to do it. The blanket hugs me even tighter, and my pillow whispers some weird lullaby to put me to sleep. I oversleep and wake up quite late—ten in the morning, and I feel as if I had been dead all that while and s...
